The golf course at Moundbuilders is unlike any other in the world. It is designed around famous Prehistoric Native American Earthworks that come into play on eleven of the holes. It is a challenging Par 71 course with meticulously maintained bent grass fairways and greens. Eligibility

  • Female amateur golfer

  • Player is a member of a private club in Ohio that has paid 2018 WOSGA’s membership dues, or

  • Player is a legal resident of Ohio

  • And, who meets the handicaps requirements below

 

Divisions – Players can play in only one Division

 

Open Division

  • No age limit

  • The player must have an individual up-to-date Handicap Index® not exceeding 18.0 

  • Non-member players are invited to play and must have an individual up-to-date Handicap Index® of 10.0 or less and be Ohio residents 

 

Mid-Amateur Division

  • Players must have reached their 35th birthday by July 23, 2018

  • Mid-Amateur players must have an individual up-to-date Handicap Index® at a member club based on ratings for women not exceeding 25.0 under the USGA Handicap System™

  • Non-member players are invited to play and must have an individual up-to-date Handicap Index® of 22.0 or less and be residents of Ohio

 

Championship Format

The competition will be in two stages:                                      

  • (A) Stroke Play: 18 holes stroke play to determine flights for match play

    • The 32 low qualifiers comprise the Championship Flight in the Open Division

    • The low 16 qualifiers comprise the Championship Flight in the Mid-Amateur Division

    • All other flights shall consist of 16 or 8 players. If there are an insufficient number of players to fill a flight, the flight may be played as a stroke play event and/or a combination of stroke and match play, at the discretion of the WOSGA.

  • (B) Match Play: General numerical draw is used.

 

Championship Field Size

  • 64 players in the Open Division

  • 24 players in the Mid-Amateur Division

Entry Fee

  • Member – $165 – check the list of member clubs  and if your club isn’t a member,
    they can join WOSGA for $50

  • Non-Member – $190 – pub links players and members of private clubs that are not WOSGA members

  • Entry fee includes driving range balls, lunch on Monday and Tuesday, and prizes.

Entry Priority

A player’s eligibility is determined by their USGA Handicap Index® in effect on the date their entry was received.  Entries of players with a Handicap Index® less than 9.4 and past WOSGA tournament champions have priority acceptance through June 22, 2018.

Registration

Players are required to register on site. On-site player registration is from 12:30 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. on Sunday, July 22, 2018.  Players who do not register may forfeit their position in the field to players on the Championship Alternate List. No refunds will be given for forfeited positions.

Practice Privileges

Practice rounds are available on Sunday, June 17, 2018, beginning at 1:30 P.M.  Contact the pro shop, beginning on Sunday, July 8th at (419) 666-1472 to schedule a practice round tee time. All contestants must call the course to arrange their practice round.

Breaking Ties

A tie for the last place in the Championship Flights of both Divisions shall be determined immediately by a sudden death playoff.  All other ties shall be determined immediately by a scorecard playoff.  In the case that players are still tied after the 18th hole, the secondary method will be “Last to First.”

Defending Amateur Champion

Ashley Au will be a junior at Olentangy Orange High School, where she will play her third season for the varsity golf team. They won the 2016 OHSAA Girls Golf State Championship as a team, and individually Ashley placed third, shooting a 72 to make First Team All-State. She was player of the Year in the Ohio Capital Conference-Cardinal Division her freshman and sophomore year. 

In addition to her high school golf, Ashley has won the Ohio District Optimist Junior Golf Tournament for four consecutive years, played in the 2016 IMG Junior Worlds Championship, placed third in the 2015 Optimist International Junior Golf Championship, and the 2016 USGA Girls Junior Championship. She was the 2014 recipient of the Archie Griffin Sportsmanship Award.

Aside from golf, Au was in the Columbus International Children’s Choir, competing in the World Choir Games in 2012 and 2014. She has also won three state-wide piano competitions. She maintained a 4.3 GPA last year.

Other Policies

  • Automotive Transportation; Walking; Caddies; Pull Cart – A player may use automotive transportation, carry their own clubs, use a pull cart, or use a caddy. A player is prohibited from having member of the LPGA or PGA serve as a caddie during the stipulated round.

  • Cart Policy – The WOSGA Cart Policy is in effect (www.wosga.org/policies). Note the definition of caddy and equipment when using carts. All drivers must have a valid driver’s license. Cart fees are charged per person per round.

  • Acceptance into Field – WOSGA may reject, at their discretion, an entry application, revoke an accepted application, expel from the Championship or suspend a player from future championships for any reason including improper withdrawal from the Championship or unbecoming conduct.  All entries are subject to acceptance by the WOSGA.

  • Decisions – The decision of the Championships Committee/on-site Rules Committee in any matter will be final. The WOSGA Executive Committee reserves the right to alter any of the Conditions, Local Rules, Provisions, and Schedules herein, available at www.wosga.org, or provided as supplemental information for the Championship. 

  • FIeld Size – WOSGA reserves the right to modify field size at any time and select players based on Handicap Index®.

  • Substitutions – If a player withdraws before or on the first day of the Championship before playing their first stroke, substitution is allowable.  A list of alternates (Championship Alternate List) shall be maintained by the WOSGA. Vacancies in the field will be offered to alternates in order of Handicap Index®. A tie for the last spot in the field by an alternate will be settled by drawing of lot.

  • Withdrawal – After the start of the Championship, a player must have the consent of the WOSGA Executive Committee or Tournament Manager (not host club personnel) to withdraw from the Championship. Players must contact Tournament Manager, Kaye Julian at (330) 608-7202 to withdraw from the Championship. If a player withdraws without this consent, they shall be ineligible to play in the championship for one year.

  • Refunds – A $30.00 service fee will be deducted from ALL refunds. The entry fee will be refunded, minus the service fee, regardless of the reason, if Tournament Manager, Kaye Julian is notified before entries close.  After the entries close, the entry fee will be refunded, minus the service fee, for injury or illness if requested by 11:59 p.m. EST on Wednesday, July 18, 2018. No refunds will be issued for any reason after Sunday, July 22. 2018.  Any entry fee paid by an alternate with a position on the official Championship Alternate List who is not accepted into the Championship will be refunded in full.
