Dublin, OH – Former Owens Community College and Lourdes University golfer Brandon Hoelzer of Fremont shot his third consecutive under-par score to jump to a narrow one-shot lead over fellow playing competitor Alex Weiss of Pickerington (pictured driving off the first tee above) who has recently played for Marshall University.

Hoelzer’s rounds of 68-68-70 left him seven-under-par for the championship. He and Weiss played dead even throughout the third round, which they entered with a three stroke lead of the field. After fourteen holes, both players sat at even par for the day and tied for the lead at six-under-par. Hoelzer’s birdie at the par four fifteenth, followed by a Weiss bogey at the par four sixteenth, gave Hoelzer a two-shot lead with two holes to play. Weiss would respond with a deuce on the par three seventeenth hole to cut the lead to a stroke, before both players would par the brutal par five eighteenth hole to finish.

After the 54-hole mark, Hoelzer and Weiss began to separate themselves from the field. They are the only two competitors in the field currently with two rounds in the 60’s. The final threesome tees off at 10:10 today. The leaders are joined by Luke Campbell of Whitehouse who finished at 211 (two-under-par).

Rounding out the top five contenders are Charlie Toman of Chardon (Valparaiso Recruit) who shot 72 yesterday in the final group to finish at 211 and Avery Schneider who is sitting at 212 (one-under-par) after shooting a tournament best 65 on Thursday (including a six-under-par 30 on the front nine.)
